Mikhail Gorbachev  (born in 1931) was leader of the Soviet Union from 1985 until 1991. His attempts at reform helped to end the Cold War.
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990.

He also recorded an album of old Russian romantic ballads.
